The 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics will be awarded to Anne L'Huillier, Pierre Agostini and Ferenc Krausz for the generation and detection of attosecond light pulses. This news caused particular joy at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, as the award winners also brought into focus a research direction that has been the focus of attention in Jena for many years. This was publicly documented in 2015 with the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Ms. L’Huillier. The lecture will provide an introduction to the underlying research field - strong field laser physics - and will also touch on the connections to Jena and the lecturer.
