A1. Which MSc Photonics courses will be offered in the summer semester 2020?

The entire summer semester, i.e. all lectures, courses and exams until July 2020, is held online. The Abbe School of Photonics as part of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena is bound to the regulations and orders issued by the Thuringian Ministry of Education. However, we take full responsibility for our students and assure that their studies in Jena are not at risk.

In the summer semester 2020, the following courses are provided by digitally based teaching solutions:

  • Applied laser technology I
  • Biomedical Imaging - Non-ionizing radiation
  • Biophotonics
  • Computational photonics
  • Fiber optics
  • Image processing
  • Integrated quantum photonics
  • Introduction to nanooptics
  • Key experiments in accelerator-based modern physics (seminar)
  • Laser driven radiation sources
  • Laser physics (mandatory for the 2nd semester)
  • Lens design I
  • Micro/nanotechnology
  • Microscopy
  • Milestones in optics
  • Modern Methods of Spectroscopy
  • Nonlinear optical properties of 2D materials
  • Nuclear Matter and the Formation of Elements
  • Optical properties of solids in external fields
  • Optics for spectroscopists: Optical waves in solids
  • Optoelectronics
  • Physics of Extreme Electromagnetic Fields
  • Physics of free electron laser
  • Physics of solar cells
  • Plasma Physics
  • Quantum optics
  • Strong-field laser physics
  • Theory of nonlinear optics
  • XUV Optics

Moreover, all professors and supervisors are currently offering flexible solutions also for practical modules such as the internships, the research labwork and the Master's degree thesis. Our goal is that all enrolled students can proceed with their study program and earn all necessary ECs in the upcoming summer semester 2020. As soon as the social distancing restrictions are suspended, we will return to regular courses with physical attendance as before.
